Plantar Fascia Tear: Week 2

Tuesday
Did: broken foot workout and PT
Guys, Caroline Jordan is my hero. She's a fitness instructor who created a series of free YouTube "broken foot workouts" after suffering an injury herself. I did this one today over lunch. She's a bit SUPER bubbly, but, honestly, I kind of need that sort of cheery, over-the-top enthusiasm and cheerleading right now.

YASSSSSSS

Also, I've officially retired the iWalk (less than a week after getting it, but, for real, it was worth it for the weekend... especially since we didn't know how long I'd be in it at the time) and am only in the walking boot now. YAY, progress!

Wednesday
Did: PT, 30min strength
Another great thing about my PT: his first appointment of the day is at 6:00am. Yes, you read that right. It's amazing. :D

I wore my walking boot today, and found it really freeing to be able to park in the garage and walk to the doctor's office instead of having to rely on valet (especially since, despite the "open at 5:30am" sign, no one was there).

We went through the homework exercises, and then added some new ones: picking up marbles with my foot and putting them in a bucket, rotating a wobble board, and then doing some leg extensions to get my quad functioning again (oh, the burn was felt for sure!). Entonces, he had me walk back and forth across the room a few times (barefoot)... and congratulated me on returning to a normal gait. YESSSSS.

Finalmente was the tissue massage and ice boot. I see my doctor next week (Tuesday), and return to the PT on Wednesday... to run on the anti-gravity treadmill. :D :D :D

Did about 30min of core and upper body work at home. It's not a real workout, but it's something.

Thursday
Did: PT
I'm getting more comfortable in the boot. :)

Friday
Did: 45min gym workout, PT
This not seeing my friends in the mornings is tough. :( I'm trying to at least take advantage of the "time" to get to the gym, though.

Sometimes, walking into the gym in a boot is the most empowering thing in the world. Today, I was just sad at the state of my body, no matter how much I tried to hit that endorphin high.

3x10x15lb DB: bicep curl, hammer curl, shoulder press, tricep extension
3x15x15lb DB: chest press, row
3x10x8lb: straight arm raise, lateral arm raise
3x10x6lb: tricep kickbacks
3x10x40lb: lateral pulldown
3x10x20lb: leg extension, with single down, did these at PT Wednesday
3x10x10lb: single leg extension (up and down)did these at PT Wednesday

2x core circuit:
30s plank (front, ea side, back)
scissor legs (up/down and crossover)
8lb medicine ball mason twists

and then I decided I wanted some cardio, so I tried the rowing machine. I only made it 5x through a 1min work/30s recover cycle. So boring. So jerky. I miss running. :(

Saturday
Did: PTx3, and about 3000 steps around
Took the potato to a kids' exhibit downtown, and ended up accidentally running after him at one point... That was a terrible, terrible error. :P Iced a lot when we got home.

Sunday
Did: PTx3, and about 3000 steps around
Went on a short walk around a park today. I'm feeling more strain on my hips from being in the boot, though, and trying to minimize walking in it to reduce these compounding secondary effects.

Today was also a hard day mentally. I've reached the point in my injury where I just want to be better. I hate that I'm having to find other people to run my legs in Bourbon Chase, that I haven't seen most of my running buddies for over a week and that, since I haven't been very active, I'm starting to get hung up on body image stuff. Blergh. Injuries...

On the bright side, today was the Chicago Marathon, and I was able to take some solace in the fact that, one year ago, less than a year after giving birth to a tiny human, I knocked almost an entire hour off of my marathon PR and had one of the most accomplishment-ful days of my life. I will have more of those.
