Postpartum Week 1

Week-beginning Thoughts:
Kind of can't believe that I had a baby last week, but I feel so good.

Monday
Did: 15min strength plus 2.04mi stroller walk

Tuesday
Did: 6.78mi double stroller walk
Had to make 10KTuesday happen, so I walked my older kiddo to/from daycare with the double today.

Wednesday
Did: 30min strength workout plus 4.05mi stroller walk

Strength workout: https://youtu.be/CIxNJbit9BA

Thursday
Did: 6.73mi double stroller walk

sometimes I hate my uphill driveway

Friday
Did: 1.52mi treadmill walk
Better than nothin'

Saturday
Did: 4.60mi run/walk (1.52mi run @ 9:07/mi avg)
Woo, I'm back to running a little bit. Took today's family outing and enjoyed a few 400m and 800m runs just to see how my body handled it. So far, so good.

Sunday
Did: 4.23mi stroller run/walk (2.5mi @ 9:47/mi avg)
Took older one out for our Sunday Runday date. It felt SO good to run :D

Total Weekly Mileage: 4.02mi run, 26mi walk

Week-ending Thoughts:
  1. Hell yeah. I just logged a 30mi week.
  2. Achilles is still a semi-issue. It hasn't gotten any worse, but hasn't gotten much better. It doesn't hurt when I'm active; taping it feels better; and the only issue is some soreness when I press on it at the insertion point. Guess I'll just kind of keep on keeping on since I'm kind of unwilling to not to anything and try giving it complete rest... :P

Peachtree Training: Week 4/12

Week-beginning Thoughts:
Hrm... today is Friday. I don't know what I was thinking at the beginning of the week.

Monday
Did: rest

Tuesday
Did: 7.0mi @ 11:09/mi avg, Big 5
Ran two miles easy with one teammate, and then did another five miles of 3/1 with our third teammate. Nice and easy morning, even if it did start at 4:20am. :P

Wednesday
Did: 2mi solo + 2mi 3/1 = 4.05mi @ 10:41/mi avg, Big 5
Woo, the sidewalk didn't beat me up this week. ;)

Thursday
Did: 1mi WU + 8x hill repeats + 0.5mi CD = 5.41mi @ 11:32/mi avg
I can't remember anytime in the past year that I've dreaded a workout as much as I was dreading this one. The YMCA hill is always a beast on our SpeedworkThursday warm-up, and I was not excited at all about doing hill repeats on it... especially not pregnant.

...but you follow the plan, whatever it says. So I did, and I felt SUPER proud afterwards.

Friday
Did: rest
Briefly considered running, but enjoyed sleeping in instead. :)

Saturday
Did:13.32mi with stroller @ 10:40/mi avg, Big 5
To celebrate my five-year anniversary of becoming at marathoner, I wanted to do a half marathon today (pushing a toddler in a stroller while being ~6mo pregnant with another kid was a necessity due to my husband's schedule, but a pretty sweet bonus).   I'm so freaking proud to have done such a great pace, and so grateful that the entire run felt so comfortable, too. Yessssssss.

Sunday
Did: 4mi with stroller at 3:1 @ 11:47/mi avg, Big 5
Another super easy run/walk with my running mama friend along the river.

Total Weekly Mileage: 33.81

Week-ending Thoughts:
  • So freaking proud of the stroller half marathon at 28w pregnant
  • Still feel great while running
  • Kind of crazy that a ~34mi week still feels like "maintenance mode". At this point during my last pregnancy, I was doing this sort of mileage, but it was not easy or comfortable. So grateful for a different experience this time around!

Recovery Week

Week-beginning Thoughts:
I will never tire of this picture.

Monday
Did: rest, stretching
Still couldn't walk much on my super-sore feet when I first got out of bed this morning, but that seemed to fix itself over the first hour I was awake. Bonus: I even got my appetite back! Yassssssssss.

Tuesday
Did: 3.29mi of walking/jogging
Planned on walking 30min out and 30min back, but didn't dress appropriately for walking in 38 degrees. I did a little running, but it never felt good, namely because I couldn't get the bump comfortable. Here's hoping this is just a phase, because, with how I felt today, I have no idea how I ever ran a mile two days ago, much less a marathon....

Wednesday
Did: rest
My bump feels so heavy today. It's like this baby knew it just had to make it through the marathon before becoming uncomfortable.... Thanks, kid.

Seriously don't feel like running at all. Even walking or standing or just existing is kind of uncomfortable right now. Hope the little one moves to a more comfortable spot soon...

Thursday
Did: 4.1mi 4min run/1min walk @ 10:40/mi avg
Today was a win. The other pregnant runner in our training group has started 4:1 intervals, and that worked well for me today. I felt super sluggish and taxed for the first half mile, but, after that, running felt comfortable and normal and awesome again. Hooray. Bonus: no feet swelling or any other discomfort. I think it's safe to say I'm recovered from the marathon. ;)

Friday
Did: rest
Kind of thought about running this morning, but life/work pushed me to the other side. Plus, I've got a 5K stroller race tomorrow, and I'm a little concerned about being able to run that comfortably being 50/50 on runs this week...

Saturday
Did: 1.33mi WU @ 10:52/mi avg, 5K with stroller @ 8:40/mi
Today was our annual Pound the Pavement for Peter 5K with the Running Mamas. After an easy warm-up, I can honestly say I didn't anticipate breaking 30. But then the race started, and I just kept a fun conversational, but intentional, pace. I love stroller running with my munchkin. We just talked the whole time, commenting on the trees looking like a forest, talking about what animals lived in the forest, recalling last year's race where Jerry was pushing and "Puppy" (beloved stuffed animal) tumbled out of the stroller mid-race, and just being happy to be out there doing this.

...I didn't realize how fast I was going until I saw the finish line clock. Oh, heeeeeey. That was unexpected, to say the least. I'd have been happy with a sub-27 5K pushing a stroller any day. Add a hilly course, having just run a marathon less than a week before, and being 5mo pregnant, and I'm kind of shocked at what I was able to do. Especially because it just felt... good.

and it was good enough for 2nd Stroller

Sunday
Did: 3.26mi with stroller @ 10:40/mi avg, Big 5
I hate not running in the morning. I spent the whole day preoccupied with the thought of "fitting in" my run later on. Ugh. When I finally got to the running part of my day, I ended up being about 30min short to execute my tentative plan. Instead of running at the river before my husband's soccer game and then taking the little one to cheer for him, I ended up opting to just stroller run at the same park where the soccer game was held.

I knew going in that it was a hilly park (the only other time I've run there was a part of my 22mi before Chicago), but, omigosh, it was even worse than I'd remembered. Within the first half mile, I stopped to walk and really wish I would have taken a picture of the mountainous sidewalks that screamed anything but "perfect path for a leisurely stroll through the park". Seriously, who did the grading plan for that park?

I walked several uphills along the route, and struggled HARD on the downhills, feeling like the stroller was getting away from me, wanting a handbrake, and feeling like my knees were breaking with every pounding stride because of the struggle of managing the stroller at that magnitude of decline.

Finished a 5K, though, and I can't fathom how, just yesterday, I did something similar at a sub-9 pace and, a week ago, I ran an entire marathon.

Total Weekly Mileage: 15.09 (no, that's not a typo)

Week-ending Thoughts:
  • It's weird to not have a training plan taped up near my bathroom sink.
  • This week was a good reminder that things change every day. I've had days this week where I didn't think I could run at all and days that I blew all expectations completely out of the water.
  • Still feeling like a unicorn. :)
  • I confess, I've been thinking about my next race already. I kind of want to fun-run another marathon. :P
  • We bought a double running stroller today. :D Mom level up.

  • It's weird to think that my actual next race is probably going to be Peachtree.
  • 15mpw? I don't even know the last time I dipped so low. Crayyyyyyyzeeeee.

Recovery Week

Week-beginning Thoughts:
Yep. Definitely ready for some recovery running.

Monday
Did: Sizzler

Tuesday
Did: 6.43mi run/walk @ 12:37/mi avg, Big 5
The day after a hard race isn't ideal for #10KTuesday, but it's #notoptional. Easy, sporadic run/walk intervals.

Wednesday
Did: 3.48mi @ 9:37/mi avg, Big 5
Wanted a rest day, but this was my last chance to run with my teammates this week.

Thursday
Did: rest

Friday
Did: 8.11mi @ 8:57/mi avg, Big 5, core circuit
Traveling for a family wedding = family run morning. We were fortunate to find an amazing running trail (similar to Silver Comet or Swamp Rabbit) RIGHT next to our lodging. J and the kid went 5 with me, and then, since I was feeling amazing, I went another three solo. Really nice, fast morning.

totally thought this said "Sugarland RUM" trail at first glance

Saturday
Did: 5.02mi @ 9:27/mi avg, Big 5, 1.2mi walk, lots of dancing
Took the munchkin out for some "morning miles with mom" before the wedding day. Loved this run.

Sunday
Did: rest

Total Weekly Mileage: 30.28mi

Week-ending Thoughts:
I love that, on a week where I have no scheduled miles or plan, and am running only when/how far I want, I'm still over 30mpw.
