Recap
Man, how things change. After this morning's workout, I went back and read my entry on my first time trial experience. I had put SO much pressure on myself to hit specific splits, and remember being absolutely devastated by my time. Today, my time was only 2s faster, but I was so happy with it. lol.
There's a decided difference for me in doing a training plan solo versus doing it with a teammate. Even though we only do one run a week together right now (thanks, COVID-19), knowing that she's executing the same workouts as I am on a daily basis and talking about them together is helping me SO much.
Weather was good this morning: 70ish degrees, 95% humidity, 2mph wind, and cloudly... though that didn't make a difference at 4:30am. When I started running, I remember telling my teammate, "man, my body is telling me 'this is as fast as we're getting today'." We warmed up, and then set off to opposite ends of the track for our strides and 200m repeats, each "owning" half the track for this part of the workout.
I didn't have any times in my head to "hit", just focused on using the strides to stretch my legs and the 200s to "settle in". For the 800, I wanted to hit 3:00, but not "try for it"-- I was going to run whatever I could, without checking splits, and just see what happened.
Within the first 200m, I felt a little jab in my left quad. Crap, I've already broken myself. This is what happens when you go out too fast.
Fortunately, it subsided by the 300m mark, and I crossed the first 400m in 1:27. Yeah, I hadn't planned on checking splits, but I kind of wanted to know...
Mental math = shouldn't have a problem breaking 3:00, but, at the 500m mark, it got hard.
Uggggh. Is this track hack? My lungs are on fire. I feel like I'm making weird sounds when I breathe. OMG, do I have "the 'rona"? No, I can't possibly. I don't go anywhere, and the fact that I'm physically capable of what I'm currently doing says "no".
At 600m: one turn, and one straightaway to go... push, push.
When I crossed the line, I felt winded for sure. I think I could've gone faster, but the quad sensation in the first 200m scared me a bit. Still, super proud of what I did.
Reflections
Coach Nick said you could approximate your mile time by doubling your 800m and adding 10s.
The first time I did the program, that rung pretty true: 800m= 3:02, Mile= 6:19
The second time I did the program, I was sick on time trial week and never did one.
This time, 800m = 3:00, Mile = 6:10ish? That'd be a PR, and would be really sweet.
I'm starting to think about goals for this session. :D
Previous mile times:

Blog for 2nd Miler Method Goal Race: "Race" Report: Mile Trial
This time around, I'd really like to hit something in the 6:20s, and anything faster than that would be a bonus. A PR would be a really sweet bonus.
I'll probably try to review my speedwork splits for all three cycles and see what I can reasonably expect before the real "race" in two weeks : D
