idk my bff jill?

(Wasn't sure what to name this entry, so I typed "idk", and my mind finished it off... lol. Does anyone else remember that commercial?)

Monday
Did: rest

Tuesday

Did: 10KTuesday @ 9:03/mi avg
Zoomzoom. I love this weather.

Wednesday

Did: strength
Whoa, you guys, I actually did a strength workout solo. After our makeshift DVD player failed to play my old Jillian Michaels DVD, I found a free workout video on Prime and went through 20min of ab stuff, then another 10min of arms/upper back on my own.

Ready? OK!

Also, while it didn't feel like much, I certainly did something, because I was sore getting out of bed the next day!

Thursday

Tentatively Planned: 1WU, 1600 @ whatever Birgit's running, 400 recovery, 2x400m/3min recovery with Courtney, 1CD
Did: 6.09 @ 8:45/mi avg
I took advantage of not having my own workout scheduled to enjoy a stress-free morning of running loops of the track, and pacing some of my training buddies on their intervals. I had a nightmare that someone turned off my alarm and that I let them all down. Good thing that was just a dream!

C had 4x400 in 97s. Bir had 3x1600 @ 7:38. I opted for pacing Birgit for her first mile, then jumping in on the back 200m of C's second 400, doing another part of Birgit's second mile, the second 200 of C's third 400, and then doing the last full 400m with C. It was so much fun to be able to run some of those paces and have the breath to encourage and cheer my friends through their tough intervals. :D

Warm-up Pace: 10:03/mi

Mile: 7:38
Recovery: 9:27/mi
200m: 0:41 (mid-5)
Recovery: 10:41
Partial Mile: @ 7:20/mi
200m: 0:42 (mid-5)
Recovery: 10:37
400m 1:23 (5:32/mi)
Cool-down: 8:48/mi

Overall, an entirely epic run :)

Friday

Did: 3 easy, ab workout video + 5.75mi cycling @ 15mph + 1mi with stroller @ 8:38/mi
Brandi and I had planned on an easy 3, but a severe thunderstorm spoiled those plans. Rapid claps of thunder and flashes of lightening = definite no-go on running. :( I think this may be only the second time we've ever cancelled a run.

A stressful day at work had me in desperate need of some sort of stress relief. I did another round of the AmazonPrime ab video in the morning, but needed something more by the time we finally turned in everything for our deadline. I've been recently inspired by an injured runner friend whose doing cycling as a replacement activity, and i had the rare opportunity to do something by myself during the day, so I took my bike out for some miles.

It was probably the least relaxing bike ride I've ever had. Why? Because my chain fell off up a really, really big hill. This is the first time that's happened to me on my "grown-up bike". It happened so often to me as a kid, that I wasn't worried about fixing it on the road. I hopped off, released the tension in the chain and tried to pull it over the gear.

It was stuck.

Uggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I spent about ten minutes standing in front of some people's homes trying to fix it, while also trying not to have my bike fall on me. Ended up deciding to walk up the hill and attempt to fix it again at the top, in front of new people's homes, who hadn't seen me struggle for the past while. When I still couldn't figure it out, I almost burst into tears and thought about calling Jerry to come pick me up. It didn't come to that; I eventually got the chain back on, but it still kind of skipped every so often on the ride home. Guess I'll be emptying a can of WD-40 onto it later...

Since the bike ride didn't solve my stress problem, I ended up running a hard mile when I took baby boy to the park later on. The park we went to has a great "jogging path" around it... if you like climbing cliffs. Pretty proud of clocking an 8:40ish mile with the stroller on them hills. :)

stress relief = accomplished

Saturday
Did: 7 with the stroller
It's taper week for Birgit and the rest of the world who's doing the Publix Half/Full. While I'm running the race next weekend, it's just miles for me, so I didn't really need to taper, but wasn't particularly motivated to do any more than the rest of the girls. I don't know if it was the weather, having the stroller, or just a really stressful week of work/morning and poor sleep, but I was ready to be done with this run before mile 2.

things got better

Fortunately, when you're running with friends, it's not easy to bail out. We all pushed each other to get through it, and then B&I took baby boy for some celebratory Panera Bread.

Sunday

Did: 4PRO @ 8:11avg
Running Mamas didn't meet up for miles morning due to a bunch of conflicts, so I went out on my own later for some miles. Stress + PMS = reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally fast progression run.

Once upon a time, in college, I used to run when I got really stressed out or angry. I wasn't athletic then, so running was REALLY hard. I usually would sprint as fast as I could (probably no faster than a 10min/mi) around the block of campus near my dorm. I'm certain I never made it more than a half mile, probably more like a quarter. I'd run as hard as I could, and then stop, huff and puff my way home, and probably drown the rest of my stress in Nilla wafers or a pint of Ben & Jerry's from Paw Mart.

Today was like one of those moments on steroids. Hard, fast, and beautiful.

that last mile tho
