Week-beginning Thoughts:
So, I guess I should start thinking about marathon training, eh?
Monday
Did: 3mi @ 9:28/mi avg, Big 5, DIY bootcamp
Easy run with a friend
Tuesday
Did: 6.36mi @ 9:26/mi avg, Big 5
Brrr. "Feels like 21.9" was not exciting today. Felt a little tightness in my right inner hip post-run, but no trouble during. Chalking all of the blergh feelings this week up to a well-earned PR half less than 7 days ago.

Wednesday
Thursday
Did: 1mi WU, 4X800/400, 1mi CD = 5.4mi @ 8:51/mi avg, Big 5
Brr. It was 30 degrees this morning. I haven't been to the track in two months, and going back felt strange and intimidating. I opted for a short-ish interval, but something long enough that I could feel good about a relatively low number of repeats.

My usual pace for these is 3:28-3:36 (depending on what my goal race is). Today, I just wanted to hit 4:00. Today wasn't about being fast, just about getting back to the track, remembering how it feels to run repeats, and maybe pushing pace a little to a tempo effort. After all, it's only been a week since my goal race.

Friday
Did: 5.08mi @ 9:30/mi avg, Big 5
Yesterday, I work tights, long socks, a UA baselayer, a shirt, a vest, gloves, and a full hat. Today, I was in shorts and considering a singlet (opted for a tee). I felt sluggish today. I can't tell if it's because I'm getting sick, tired from a crazy week of late nights, or if I'm just having an off day. My throat's been dry and scratchy half the week, but I've assumed (until now) that's because I've gone from 0 to 60 on my singing. Maybe not?

Saturday
Did: 14.04mi @ 9:44/mi avg, Big 5
I wasn't sure this run was going to happen yesterday. Feeling sick-ish in the morning, and then knowing I had a chorus concert that wouldn't put in bed until 10:30-11-ish, I mentally prepared myself to have the first week of marathon training pass by without a long run. Buuuuuut, I ended up feeling a ton better by the end of the day, singing like a boss on the concert, and waking up sans alarm at 4am, ready to run. Hooray!
There's nothing quite like a long, slow run up hills, in pouring rain, before sunrise, with two of your best friends. I'd wanted at least 11, hoped for 13, and thought it would be awesome if I could get 14. Nailed it.
This is my longest run since my last round of marathon training. While I'm feeling great and excited about returning to these longer LSDs, the idea of doing this (or longer) distance every weekend for the next 15 weeks is a little intimidating. I kind of wish I could just go from last week's 13 and jump straight to a December marathon to get it over and done with. Then I could capitalize on my half training and not have to maintain endurance (or, gulp, build more). I'm sure my mental outlook will change as the season goes on, though. The reason I wanted to do a marathon in the first place was to feel that sense of accomplishment each week- something to focus on beyond the stresses of life.
