Peachtree Training: Week 2/12

Week-beginning Thoughts:
It's Wednesday. I don't know what I was thinking at the beginning of the week.

Monday
Did: rest

Tuesday
Did: 1mi WU, 4mi PRO, 1mi CD + some = 6.69mi @ 10:04/mi avg, Big 5
Straight running the whole time. Nice pro miles from 10:37 down to 9:11.

Wednesday
Did: 4mi @ 10:38/mi avg, Big 5
Two miles solo + two with training partner. Always a better day when I get my runs in in the AM.

Thursday
Did: 1mi WU, 5x600/400, 1mi CD, Big 5
After slogging up the warm-up mountain, I was certain today would be the day I couldn't hit that 8:00/mi pace goal for my intervals. After all, I was close last week with my 400s, and this week I had to go another 1/2 lap farther.

Nope. Nailed it and felt so strong.
Reference: 8min/mi = 3:00

No problems on the way back with the cool-down, but I did have a weird shooting pain inside my left thigh before my shower. Not sure if it was random/pregnancy-related or something else. Just noting it here for future reference.

Friday
Did: rest

Saturday
Did: 8.02mi @ 10:43/mi avg plus 5.12mi on treadmill @ 9:59/mi avg, Big 5
After a major disappointment yesterday, I knew I wanted to get a long run in to start the weekend. I met up with two teammates at 4:30am for as much as we could get through before parental duties began at 6am, and decided I'd continue the run on my treadmill for as long as my little one slept/would let me.

I haven't had a solid long run since the marathon. My last few attempts, I've had to stop after 8-9 due to knee issues. I wanted at least ten this weekend, and played lots of fun mental games with myself to get the additional in on the treadmill, gaming for that elusive 13.1.

With just over a quarter mile to go, the baby monitor went off, and I heard, "Mommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmy, Daddddddddddddddddddddddddddy! Mommmmmmmmmmmmmy, Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaddy" over the speaker. After a quick break to get little one up, I convinced him that we could postpone breakfast (and our normal morning routine) for me to finish up my run. He even cheered for me the last quarter mile, which was great.

Zero problems during my run (with my knee or anything else) = happy. I'm not "over" Friday's let-down, but, man, a long run really does help. At the very least, it forces your mind to "shut up" for two hours and focus on propelling your body forward. I'm forever grateful for this ability.

As the day went on, I found myself a bit tired (probably due to poor re-fueling choices), and also dealing with some pubic bone aching. Nothing too bad, but wee pregnant running.

Sunday
Did: 4.03mi with stroller @ 11:00/mi avg, Big 5
Gorgeous running mamas run/walk along the river with the kiddos this morning.

Total Weekly Mileage: 33.22

Week-ending Thoughts:
  • Still grateful for running my way through all this life BS.
  • 33mpw feels like "maintenance mileage". lol. I remember back when I struggled to hit 7mi/week... average. How far I've come...

  • I miss actually training for something. 10K Training isn't quite the same when I know I can do the distance (and do on a regular basis... pretty much every run), and the fun of pushing speed is "off the table" due to pregnancy. I think that's why marathon training was so enjoyable; even without the speed, I was still building up to something each week, challenging myself, etc. I always knew I could do the mileage, but it was something "new".
