Miler Method #4: Week 6/6

Week-beginning Thoughts:

Meh? I don't really have any this week...

Monday
Scheduled: 5-7mi easy
Did: 5.39mi @ 10:08/mi avg
Mmm. I do love a good pre-sunrise easy run. I opted for the hilly 5.5ish mi route from home this morning, and enjoyed taking it super slow.

Tuesday
Scheduled: 10min WU, 2x5min tempo/3min, then 3min rest, then 6x30s @ MP, 10-15min CD
Did:

Wednesday
Scheduled: rest
Did: rest
Rest days are the worst. I always find myself so much more stressed, irritable, hungry, grouchy, and miserable when my day doesn't start off with a workout.

Thursday
Scheduled: 4-5mi easy + 4-6 strides (50-70m @ 80-90% speed)
Did: 5.5mi @ 9:33/mi avg, with 6 strides
Easy morning run with my training partner, followed by parking lot strides.

Friday
Scheduled: rest
Did: 16.61mi bike ride plus 3.28mi @ 8:54/mi avg
So, I've got a friend who was doing his first marathon (as part of his first full ironman) today, virtually. I couldn't not go out and support him, so I decided to write chalk messages along his entire run course, about every 1/4 to 1/2mi. This ended up taking a LOT longer than I'd planned...I ended up spending almost 2.5hrs on my bike (well, hopping on and off my bike) and giving my hands major cramps (even being ambidextrous didn't help much...).

After chalking, I met up with my family and we covered some of the course on foot, trying to meet up with our Ironman-to-be. I'd planned on running a couple miles with him (swapping tomorrow's 1-2mi easy to today).

When we finally met up with him, I couldn't help myself. I ran a little over a 5K at his pace (high-8s), which felt super easy, but is a good bit faster than the normal pace I'd run that distance at... and much faster than I'd do an "easy run" at.

Still, however what I did today impacts Sunday's mile trial, I have zero regrets. Getting to support a friend through one of their significant athletic achievements meant more to me this weekend than hitting my sub-6. I know I can do that, and if I end up having to take another pass at it next weekend, then that's what I'll do.

Saturday
Scheduled: optional 1-2mi jog
Did: some walking with the family, and 30min bedtime yoga
Tried to stay chill today... did a Halloween thing with the fam :)

Sunday
Scheduled: 10-20min WU, 5x70m pickup strides (faster than MP), catch breath, then hard mile, then 10min CD
Did: as scheduled, 5.54mi total @ 10:17/mi avg (with a good bit of walking in the cool-down)

Total Weekly Mileage: 26.8

Week-ending Thoughts:
Meh? idk, bro...
