Iliac Crest Pain: PT Appt #1

What's the first thing we teach our in-training participants? Stretch.

What's the first thing we do at every training session? Stretch.

What's the last thing we do at every training session? Stretch.

Do I actually do those things on my own? No. :(

I'm pretty sure I just paid way too much to be told "you need to stretch before and after you run".

D'oh. :P

PT did a pretty thorough eval and concluded that I might have the beginnings of a hip bursitis caused by tight IT/glute muscles rubbing over the bursa. The only thing that's changed in my recent training is an increase of speedwork mileage, so we attributed it to that... in conjunction with not stretching enough. I've got a 4x/day stretching routine that I'll be doing for the next week (I'll also be adding in some of the hip strengthening exercises I got from friends- not discussed with PT, but, IMO, something I should probably be doing). Next Wednesday, we'll have another check-in. If I've had any further trouble, we'll re-evaluate and consider dry needling to help release the tightness.

All in all, I think that it went as well as I could have hoped. I feel a bit ashamed to be castigated for something I should have known enough to prevent, but also really relieved that the PT's initial take is that this is totally NOT a big deal and should clear up with truly minimal effort.
