Week-beginning Thoughts:
Nervous and excited for my first plane trip/conference in FOREVER this week-- the NCSEA Summit up in NYC
Monday
Did: 3.3mi walk through Central Park
Scouted out some paths so I would at least kind of know where to go for tomorrow's 10KTuesday. LOVED exploring a new city :D
Tuesday
Did: 6.52mi through Central Park @ 9:52/mi avg in the snow
I was a little nervous about running this morning because:
1) I was solo (no one else showed up to 6am Run Club).
2) I was running through somewhat unfamiliar city streets, and there are so many stories of bad stuff happening to joggers in Central Park...
3) It was 11 degrees with a wind chill of 7. I've never run in weather this cold, and was a bit nervous about muscle injuries if I wasn't dressed/warmed up properly
4) I'd encountered snow and ice on my walk through Central Park yesterday and didn't want to slip and fall on anything
...but it turned out pretty great. I felt safe enough on the few blocks between my hotel and the park, and, once I got TO the park, there were enough other runners (including some other solo women and a few organized groups) that I felt good.
Evidently, two pairs of tights, knee-high compression socks, fleece-lined shoes, an underarmour base layer, running jacket, running vest, arm sleeves, ski gloves, and a hat is sufficient clothing for a "feels like 7 degree" run.
Wednesday
Did: 4.6mi @ 9:42/mi avg
I kinda wanted to LIIFT today, but since I'm the cornerstone/founding/only consistent member of the NCSEA Summit 6am Run Club, I felt obligated to run. Plus, it's the only time during the conference that I get to get out and about to explore the city. I was met with another runner who, despite the 26 degree forecast, was in shorts, a t-shirt, hat, and gloves. It was a bit of a contrast to my get-up which was basically the same as yesterday (minus a pair of tights). Props to him, though, because he hadn't packed the "right gear", but still wanted to run.
We enjoyed a route down Broadway through Times Square and back.
Thursday
Did: 3.81mi @ 9:23/mi avg + 3.56mi @ 10:16/mi avg, another 30min walking
6am Run Club was in full force today! Guess it just took a few days for word-of-mouth to effectively spread the message... We did a short route today to welcome some newer runners who wanted to join- out to the UN Building and back, though the flags weren't up at 6:30am :(
In the afternoon, I explored a bit on my own, taking the subway down to the WTC, and running from the memorial over to the Brooklyn Bridge and back to the subway. Lots of stop lights and crowds, but still a wonderful run.
Friday
Did: walked a lot?
Airport strollin'
Saturday
Did: LIIFT4 Week ? Something.
I forgot to blog this and don't remember what I did...
Sunday
Did: 14.22mi @ 9:44/mi avg
Weeeeeeee, longest run in awhile. We had a plan for 10-12, with a "drop the pace on the last 2". Felt good enough to eek out a sub-9 on the last two, and finish my longest run since the 9/11 marathon :)
Total Weekly Mileage: 32.84
Week-ending Thoughts:
Fun times!
