(not my) Marathon Training: Week 1/18

Week-beginning Thoughts:
Oh. Looks like I was a week off on the start date for this marathon training thing... Whoopsies.

Monday
Scheduled: MBF Week 3 Total Body, MBF Week 3 Core 2
Did: MBF Week 3 Total Body
Kids are supposed to get up at 6am for the day, but baby's been getting up earlier. I had a 4:45am alarm set so I could get my heavy lifting workout (30min) done before baby woke up (budgeting 15min or so for start/stop to put baby back to sleep), and then finish the 30min of core workout (equipment-free) done while baby was eating breakfast/playing.

Noppppppppe.

Baby was up at 4:30am, walking into our room... I started my workout at 4:50, but had so many up/downs with baby that I didn't finish the first 30min lifting one until 6:05... at which point I had no time to do another 30min of workout, shower, and still get my kids and myself where we needed to be on time. Uggggh.

Tuesday
Scheduled: 2mi WU, 6x300m @ 10K pace up, 30s rest, 300m @ MP down, 90s rest, 2mi CD
Did: 6.25mi @ 10:46/mi avg (didn't stop watch for rest), 1mi stroller walk
First workout of marathon training today = hill repeats. Weeee. Fun fact: the "MP" stands for marathon pace, not mile pace. lol. Got a good laugh out of that one.

I found it weird to have complete rest, not just a recovery jog, between the hill repeats. I also found it really tough to keep 10K and MP paces... ended up running much faster than that....

I didn't actually plan out my paces ahead of time. If you go by my current PR, my 10K pace would be 7:42/mi. If you go by what I should be capable of based on my mile time, it's a full minute faster. If I were training for a marathon, I'd probably train to hit 4:00, a 9:09/mi pace.

not only was this NOT a good pace workout, but, in all cases but one, my downhill pace was faster than my uphill

Lots to learn there...

Wednesday
Scheduled: MBF Week 3 Legs, Core 2
Did: MBF Week 3 Legs, 4.09mi @ 9:12/mi avg, 1mi stroller walk
I don't know if I could say I really did the leg workout this morning. Again, it took me over an hour to complete the ~30min workout, between constantly putting my littlest back to bed... I was in a mooooooood for pretty much the rest of the day. Took some time to reset myself before getting the kiddos from school, and embarked on a HOT, HUMID solo run. Then finished the day with a stroller walk.

Thursday
Scheduled: 2mi WU, 2x2mi @ HM pace with 3min recovery jog in between, 2mi CD
Did: as scheduled = 8.52mi @ 8:37/mi avg
This workout felt good. I loved being back on the track (sooo squishy!), and it was really nice to have what I thought was an "easy" workout, with no fast paces. Since I didn't really care much about pacing, I took Lane 5 and decided to aim for approximately 8min/mi, knowing that I could be a little over the 30s/100m since I was running a consistently longer lap than in Lane 1. This was nice for me, and took a lot of pressure out of the picture. I barely looked at my watch, just ran by feel, checking in every once in awhile, but knowing it was totally fine to be a few seconds "over" due to the bonus distance.

My first one, I missed the actual start mark, and lost about 20-50m, but the remaining splits are for four times around Lane 5:
8:01, 8:11, 8:09, 8:02

So, that shakes out to between 7:39 and 7:29 per mile, with a total distance at that pace of 4.28mi, instead of the prescribed 4. I'm pretty thrilled with that, especially since I only felt like I really had to "dial-in" for the last half of the last mile.

It's fun to be running fast again.

Friday
Did: 5.1mi @ 9:26/mi avg, 1mi walk
Easy mileage in the morning, stroller walk in the eve

Saturday
Scheduled: 60min WU, 10x1min @ 5K/1min @ MP, 20min CD
Did: as scheduled = 10.01mi @ 9:10/mi avg
Enjoyed the easy warm-up and mentally broke this into three segments. The 10x workout actually felt pretty good, and I really enjoyed the push.

Sunday
Did: 7.17mi with double stroller @ 9:35/mi avg
This felt great. :D

Bonus: so freaking excited that my oldest ran their first mile this morning :D :D :D

Total Weekly Mileage: 41.1

Week-ending Thoughts:
Enjoyed this week.
Strength training is impossible while working.
